Kalynthos

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kalynthos ( ancient Greek Κάλυνθος ) was a Greek sculptor of Aegina , the v in the first half of the 5th century. Was active.

Pausanias mentions a sculptor Kalynthos, who worked with Onatas on a consecration gift that Taranto received after his victory over Peuketeers around 470 BC. BC to Apollo in Delphi . A dedicatory inscription from this period was found on the Acropolis in Athens , according to which a Kalynthos and his brother Polytimos are said to have donated a consecration statue to the goddess Athena , signed by Diopeithes .

The readings of the names are not certain, however, as possible other readings have been suggested as Hageladas , Kalliteles, or Kalamis . Nevertheless, the assumption that Kalynthos can be read and that the Delphic with the Athenian Kalynthos was identical was variously supported .
