The Kambui Hills Forest Reserve ( English Kambui Hills Forest Reserve ) is a forest reserve in Sierra Leone, West Africa . The reserve is located at an altitude of up to 645  m in the Kambui Hills , not far from the provincial capital Kenema in the Eastern province . It has an area of ​​21,228 hectares .

The protected area is divided into two areas, "North" with 20,348 hectares and "South" with 880 hectares, which are separated by the main road between Kenema and Bo .

Vegetation, flora and fauna

60 percent of the protected area is covered by forest , including mainly evergreen, moist secondary forest. On the mountain slopes there is semi-evergreen ( English semi-deciduous ) forest. 20 percent of the area is taken up by savannah .

The forest reserve is home to at least 200 species of birds, five of which are considered threatened worldwide, including:

The largest and most common mammal species are the red colobus monkey and the sooty monkey . Chimpanzees were detected (as of 2010).
