Kamisama Kiss ( Japanese 神 様 は じ め ま し た , Kamisama Hajimemashita ) is a manga series by Julietta Suzuki that appeared in Japan between 2008 and 2016 and was also adapted as an anime television series.

content

The father of the schoolgirl Nanami Momozono ( 桃園 奈 々 生 ) is addicted to gambling and gambled away all the family's money. Eventually he disappears and Nanami is thrown out of the house by the debt collectors. Looking for a place to stay, she meets a young man, Mikage ( ミ カ ゲ ), who wants to let her have a house. She agrees and the man disappears after kissing her goodbye on the forehead.

Arriving at the house, Nanami discovers that it is a Shinto shrine and that she is now the new local protective goddess ( ubusunagami ) of the shrine. The young fox yokai Tomoe ( 巴 衛 ), who is supposed to be her servant, is initially not very enthusiastic about it. After a brief argument with Nanami, he even leaves the shrine. Nanami learns from the will-o'-the-wisps of the Onikiri ( 鬼 切 ) and Koketsu ( 虎 ährt ) shrines that she could bind Tomoe to her with a contract as a servant of the gods , which would oblige Tomoe to obey her absolutely. Her initial enthusiasm quickly evaporates when she learns that she “only” has to kiss Tomoe for it. Another problem is the fact that as a defenseless human girl with a god mark on her forehead, she is nothing more than a treat for other yokai . But when Nanami is in mortal danger and Tomoe appears, not to help her, but to enjoy the spectacle, she kisses Tomoe. Now he has to obey her, whether he wants to or not. In the following time, Nanami has to deal with other spirits and gods and find her way into the life of the shrine goddess. And so they experience adventures and get to know many other friends.
