History of worsted spinning

The history of worsted spinning mill is inextricably linked to the history of the formerly resident corporation Kammgarn spinnerei Bietigheim, which was founded in 1856.

Relevant factors for choosing a location were the convenient location on Heilbronn - Stuttgarter Landstrasse, the proximity to the Neckar near Besigheim and the Bietigheim train station as well as the possibility of finding workers in the factory's catchment area of around 15,000 people. The water gradient of the Enz offered a usable power of 140 horsepower at medium water levels and 100 horsepower at low water levels.

The source gives an overview of the buildings constructed by the worsted spinning mill: In addition to the factory building, a director's villa (1856), supervisors 'houses (1857) and a steadily growing number of workers' apartments were built. In 1910 191 male and 198 female employees of the worsted spinning mill lived in 69 households. In the years 1900–1911 worsted yarn spinning experienced a decline caused by falling prices, the recovery of which is hampered by a shortage of workers. The annual balance sheets clearly show that these problems were overcome from 1912 onwards. The number of workers rose to 541 in 1933. In the years of the Second World War , a lack of foreign currency and problems with the procurement of raw materials led to a partial shutdown of the machines. The number of employees at the end of the Second World War is given by 124 and 70. By 1955 it had grown to 564 employees.

In 1985 acquired and the company restored Bessey Tool under monument protection standing building of the former worsted spinning Bietigheim.
