Fight for Norway - Campaign 1940 is a German propaganda film commissioned by the Wehrmacht High Command in 1940 , produced by the UFA and created by Martin Rikli . The rolls of film were made on a nitrate basis. The special effects guaranteed by Atelier Hans Neuberger and UFA-Trickatelier.

The film shows the attack of the Wehrmacht on Norway in graphics and documentary material . The film shows the use of all branches of arms during the occupation of Norway. It ends heroically with the drawing of the document of surrender by the Norwegians and the raising of the imperial war flag by representatives of the deployed associations against the backdrop of a picturesque fjord .

Film history

The film was thought to be lost for a long time. It was only found by chance in 2000 by the Norwegian film historian Jostein Saakvitne in the offer of a Militaria online auction house . This involved five rolls of film with a total weight of 20 kilograms. The film changed hands anonymously for less than 1000 euros .

On September 20, 2006, the film was premiered for the first time after the war by the Oslo Film Institute . The film was not shown in Germany.

The film was digitized by Ragnar Løvberg from the Norwegian Film Institute. The original rolls are now stored in Mo i Rana, the mountain storage facility of the Norwegian National Library .
