The Kanas ( Chinese 喀纳斯 河 ) is the right source river of the Burqin in the Kazakh Ili Autonomous District in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China .
The Kanas runs in circles Burqin the administrative district of Altay . It forms the outflow of Lake Ak Kol ( Chinese 阿克库勒 湖 , Pinyin Ākè Kùlè Hú ) located on the southern flank of the Southern Altai . He leaves it on its west bank. Initially the Kanas flows in a west-southwest direction, but then turns to the south-southwest. After about 45 km it reaches the northern end of Lake Kanasi . The Kanas flows through the 24.5 km long elongated lake and forms its drain at its southern end. It flows another 30 km to the south, before turning east and after another 20 km meets the Hom River ( Chinese 禾木 河 , Pinyin Hémù Hé ) coming from the north . The two rivers unite to form the Burqin, which finally flows into the Irtysh ( Ertil ).
The Kanas has a length of approx. 125 km, of which 24.5 km are accounted for by Lake Kanasi.
