In autumn 2003 the 150th anniversary could be celebrated. The Kant-Gymnasium is located near the old town of Spandau . It consists of a main building and a new building opposite. The school is named after the philosopher Immanuel Kant .
history
The Kant-Gymnasium was founded on October 15, 1853 as a school subordinate to the St. Nikolai Church . For reasons of space, it moved in 1915. When the building became dilapidated, it had to be moved to today's school building in Bismarckstrasse in 1972. From 1978 this building was no longer sufficient for the growing number of students, so that the lower classes were housed in branch schools. In 1999 the school took over a converted furniture store opposite the main building. This meant that all students could be taught in the same place. In 2003, two containers were set up as an extension in the courtyard of the extension. At the old location on Carl-Schurz-Straße there is now a branch of the Freiherr-vom-Stein-Gymnasium .
Between 1977 and 1990 the magazine Diskant was published by students of the Kant-Gymnasium . From 1981 the satirical and at the same time dialogue-oriented abl-abs appeared in parallel, which was followed by the edge after two years . On May 19, 2008, the edge 2.0 celebrated its debut as the new school newspaper.
In earlier times the Kant-Gymnasium was an all boys' school, known as the Latin School .
The Kant-Gymnasium organized a series of lectures on its namesake in the year of Kant in 2004 and a series of lectures on the life and work of Albert Einstein in the Einstein year of 2005 . The music and arts departments organize concerts and black light theater performances every year.
