Manuel Schmiedebach (born December 5, 1988 in Berlin ) is a German football player . He was under contract with 1. FC Union Berlin from 2018 to 2020 .
family
Schmiedebach's father Helmut is German with Irish ancestry. His mother Betty is Colombian who emigrated to Venezuela with her mother as a child . His grandfather is a Moroccan with Portuguese ancestry. Manuel Schmiedebach grew up bilingual , Spanish and German . He has three sisters and one brother.
Career
Club career
Youth and amateur area
Schmiedebach played in youth for Hertha BSC from 2003 and became German champion of the B-Juniors in 2004/05 . For the 2008/09 season he moved from the second team at Hertha to the second team at Hannover 96 . In the first season he scored five goals in 30 games in the Regionalliga for Hannover 96 II and made twelve assists.
Hannover 96
Schmiedebach has been a member of the Hannover 96 Bundesliga squad since the 2009/10 season . He played his first Bundesliga game on August 8, 2009 when his team lost 1-0 at Hertha BSC . Here he was substituted on by then coach Dieter Hecking in the 89th minute of play for Jiří Štajner . At the end of the season was the relegation of his team. In the 2010/11 season , he and his team qualified fourth in the league for the Europa League . He and his team made it to the quarter-finals. On August 23, 2012 Schmiedebach scored his first competitive goal for the first team of Hannover 96 in a 5-3 win against Śląsk Wrocław . On May 3, 2014 (33rd matchday), he scored his first Bundesliga goal in a 2-0 win in the away game against 1. FC Nürnberg .
After relegation to the 2nd Bundesliga, he extended his contract with Hannover 96 until June 30, 2020.
1. FC Union Berlin
For the 2018/19 season Schmiedebach moved to 1. FC Union Berlin on loan . Since Union was promoted to the Bundesliga for the 2019/20 season , the loan agreement was changed into a fixed contract with a term until 2021.
National team
Schmiedebach came to ten missions for the German U-19 national team between 2006 and 2007 , in which he scored a goal.
Because of his multinational roots, he is eligible to play for various national associations and has considered playing for the Venezuelan national soccer team.
