The Kant-Gymnasium Weil am Rhein is a general education high school in the city of Weil am Rhein . It is attended by around 1,000 students from Weil am Rhein and especially from the surrounding communities.
Characteristics
The Kant-Gymnasium is scientifically oriented; Among other things, it has a large collection of literature on astronomy . However, there are also special learning opportunities in terms of languages and art. The subject Spanish is offered in a separate language course from the 8th grade and can later be chosen as a 4-hour profile subject in the upper level. The art profile, which can be selected from the 5th grade and focuses on the subjects of visual arts and music, is also unique for the entire border triangle. At the end of the school year there are project days with a big party. The school newspaper ProKant is published every school year, the school newspaper Provokant three times per school year, and its online presence was awarded first prize in 2008 by Spiegel magazine.
College
The college under the headmaster Martin Haas and his deputy Dieter Mayer includes around 80 teachers, including trainee teachers. As there is currently a shortage of specialists, especially in the subjects of mathematics and physics, retired teachers also teach a smaller number of students in these areas. The teaching staff is located on the first floor of the new building, here are the teachers' rooms, as well as the secretariat and the rectorate.
Partner schools
The Kant-Gymnasium operates permanent school exchange programs with a private secondary school in Romsey near Southampton , the Franco-German Gymnasium in Buc near Paris and the German school in Bilbao . Furthermore, an exchange with a music school in Hungary was carried out in the school years 2004/2005 and 2008 .
Additional offers
Thanks to the G8, the Kant-Gymnasium is increasingly taking on the character of an all-day school, which is why the Humboldt Building has a canteen that is attended by around 120 students a day and is managed by a working group and two supervising teachers. In addition, a wide range of other working groups is available, including support for physical research projects, several choirs or the Chinese AG. The library of the Kant-Gymnasium offers a wide range of learning materials, especially in the field of astronomy.
