The canton of Villa Esperanza is a municipality in the Oruro department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .
Location in the vicinity
The canton ( Bolivian : Cantón) Villa Esperanza is one of eight cantons of the Municipio Salinas de Garcí Mendoza in the province of Ladislao Cabrera . It borders in the north with the canton Aroma , in the east with the canton Ichalula in the municipality Pampa Aullagas , in the south with the canton Caroma in the province Antonio Quijarro in the department Potosí , and in the west and northwest with the canton Salinas de Garcí Mendoza .
The canton extends between about 19 ° 19 'and 19 ° 41' south latitude and 67 ° 10 'and 67 ° 30' west longitude, it measures up to 35 km from north to south and up to 30 km from west to east. In the eastern part of the canton is the central town of the canton, Villa Esperanza Quinsuyo , with 117 inhabitants ( 2012 census ). The mean altitude of the canton is 3750 m .

The Canton Villa Esperanza is located on the western edge of the Bolivian Altiplano between the Poopó Lake and the salt lake Salar de Coipasa .
The climate is arid , the annual precipitation is just under 200 mm (see climate diagram Salinas de Garcí Mendoza), with a pronounced dry season from April to November with only sporadic precipitation; only in the summer from December to March there is significant rainfall between 20 and 70 mm per month. The mean average temperature of the region is around 4.5 ° C and fluctuates only slightly between 0 ° C in July and 7 ° C in January.

Due to the historical population distribution, the region has a high proportion of Aymara population, in the municipality of Salinas de Garcí Mendoza 85.3 percent of the population speak the Aymara language .
