The canton school Alpenquai Luzern , KSA for short, is the largest grammar school supported by the canton in the canton of Lucerne . Hans Hirschi has been the rector since February 1, 2015.

The canton school Alpenquai is located in the Tribschen district of Lucerne directly on Lake Lucerne and is surrounded by the Emmi company, the sports field of the football club FC Kickers Lucerne and the depot of the Lucerne transport company . Next to the KSA is the “Ufschötti” lido with a park.

architecture

The red wing
The auditorium
The blue wing

The canton school consists of the main building, which is divided into the connecting wing, the red wing and the blue wing. The main building is supplemented by the drawing wing, a special wing that contains rooms for technical design, housekeeping lessons , a photo laboratory, a computer room (editing room with Macs ), a music room and normal classrooms. Due to a lack of space, the special wing was extended by one floor and one room at the front. There is an auditorium with additional music rooms right by the lake for music lessons. As the high school's space requirements increased, two temporary additional buildings had to be built, "Pavilion 80" and "Pavilion 96". Sports lessons are held in five gyms, a weight room and a large outdoor sports facility.

history

The school looks back on over 400 years of history. In 1574 the Jesuit grammar school was founded, which stood next to the Jesuit church. The "higher educational institution" continued to exist, even after the Jesuit order was repealed and banned in Switzerland. In the 19th century it was converted into a canton school run by the Canton of Lucerne .

In 1966 the canton school was relocated from Hirschengraben to its current location on Alpenquai. The first cohorts attended the school at the new location in 1967/68.

organization

The grammar school is divided into the lower grammar school (levels 1 and 2) and the upper grammar school (levels 3 to 6 or, in the case of sports and music classes, 3 to 7). The upper secondary school used to be further divided:

  • Department R , main subjects: “Applications of Mathematics and Physics”, “Biology and Chemistry” and “Artistic Design”. While “Applications of Mathematics and Physics” - specialty students have their own classes (as the basic subjects of mathematics and physics are also becoming more demanding), the Focus subjects “Biology and Chemistry” and “Artistic Design” divided into mixed classes.
  • Department L , main subjects: «Spanish», «Latin», «Greek», «Italian», «bilingual Matura class» (English / German)
  • Department W , main subject: «Economics and Law» a. a.
  • Department N / S , focus subjects: various / incl. Sports and music classes for students who attend school in fewer hours per week, but one year longer in order to be able to intensively train their sport or musical instrument (cf. Secondary school sports school).

However, the departments have been abolished since the 2015/16 school year. There are an average of 15 classes per year.

numbers

At the school, around 1,850 students, spread over six grades, are taught by more than 200 teachers. The building was built in 1964 (sports wing, blue wing, red wing, connecting wing, drawing wing, auditorium), expanded in 1980 to include the “special wing” and the “pavilion 80”, and in 1996 the “pavilion 96” was added. In 2006 the special wing was extended and now has three instead of two floors.
