course

The via ferrata consists of several sections around the rock faces of the Kanzianiberg and leads to its top (795 m; Finkenstein: 662 m). Due to the great exposure of the individual passages and the numerous available entry and exit options, there is no defined entry point. Since the Kanzianiberg is one of the largest and oldest climbing gardens in Austria, it is very easily accessible through paths and trails. In this way, almost every via ferrata passage can be bypassed or shortened at will. Climbing is done on well-secured boulders, rock walls, rope bridges and through mountain crevices.

There are short climbing routes for practice on the rocks near the parking lot and the information hut. In addition to shorter via ferratas to reach climbing routes, three noteworthy via ferratas lead through the up to 70 m high walls. The chimney via ferrata leads from the north side of the Kleiner Prasvale through a 35 m high and only one to two meters wide rock chimney to the top of the Kleiner Prasvale and leads over an exposed rope bridge to the Großer Prasvale. Another rock chimney leads to the bottom of the gorge between the two Prasvale.

The Märchensteig leads from the foot of the Untere Sonnwendkopf to the ribbon between Unteren and Oberen Sonnwendkopf and finally through the wall of the Obere Sonnwendkopf towards the east and over the Jagersteig into the gorge base between Sonnwendkopf and Kleiner Prasvale.

The Kanzel via ferrata is sometimes very exposed and exhausting. It runs from the Märchengrund along the foot of the wall to the cave entrance and further over an overhanging passage and exposed traverse to a ribbon and on to the Sonnwendkopf.

Combinations

A hiking trail leads from the Kanzianiberg to the nearby Finkenstein castle ruins . From there you have a good view of Lake Faak and the surrounding region. A Kneipp hiking trail leads around the Kanzianiberg . There is also the Rotschitza Klamm via ferrata in Finkenstein .

Remarks

Since some passages run directly through marked climbing walls, particular attention should be paid to sport climbers and the associated risk of falling rocks. Due to nesting birds, some passages on the rock walls may be closed.
