The Rotschitza-Klamm via ferrata is an easy via ferrata with a medium difficulty level ( B / C ) in the municipality of Finkenstein am Faaker See , Villach-Land district , Carinthia , Austria .

Directions and location

Coming from Villach and the Faaker See , on the Rosental Straße (B 85) to Finkenstein. In the center of Finkenstein, pay attention to the signposted junction “Kanzianiberg” or “Burgruine Finkenstein” and follow the road to the Baumgartnerhof (950 m) on the Baumgartnerhöhe. There are parking spaces and a signposted hiking trail to access the via ferrata.

Course and combinations

The entrance is on the left side of the stream at the foot of the Rotschitza waterfall. On the side of the waterfall you climb, supported by stepping pins, to the first rope bridge, where you cross the stream at a height of around six meters and enjoy a clear view of Lake Faak. Shortly afterwards you cross the stream again at a second rope bridge and climb again, mostly supported by stepping pins, along the stream wall to the first weir. After the weir system, follow the course of the stream and leave the stream bed at a second weir system on the right, following the red markings. In total, the via ferrata is 350 meters long with a height difference of around 290 meters.

A well-marked and signposted trail leads back to the approach path and then back to the Baumgartnerhof. After getting off the via ferrata, you can also follow the signposted hiking trails on the Mallestiger Mittagskogel (1801 m) or the Schwarzkogel (1842 m). On the way there or on the way back, it is worth visiting the Finkenstein castle ruins and the Kanzianiberg , one of the largest and oldest climbing gardens in Austria with the Kanzianiberg via ferrata .
