The Mallestiger Mittagskogel , in Slovenian Maloško poldne , is a summit of the Karawanken between Villach in the Carinthian Drautal and the Slovenian Jesenice in the Sava Dolnika valley .
Location and landscape
The summit is in the West Karawanken (Mittagskogel group), south of the exit of the Gail valley and Lake Faak , on the Austrian-Slovenian border. The Mallestiger Mittagskogel summit at 1801 m above sea level, shown on the Austrian map (ÖK) . A. is just under 200 meters northwest in the municipality of Finkenstein am Faaker See , Villach-Land district, the state border is on the higher summit, only named Kote 1823 in the ÖK, with the boundary stone XXVIII 1 ( ⊙ ), to the municipality of Kranjska Gora , Gorenjska region , which is also indicated under the name. The name Ojstra peč is also found for the summit in 1801 .
Surname
Like many other Karawanken peaks , the mountain is a twelve o'clock pointing mountain , it got its name from the old village of Mallestig (today the center of Finkenstein ). Slovenian poldne also means 'noon [sberg]'.
geology
The entire main ridge of the Karawanken from the nearby Techantinger - and Mallestiger Mittagskogel to the Schwarzkogel is made of Schlern dolomite , so that in this ridge section , rugged pinnacle shapes reminiscent of the Dolomites predominate.
ways
The Mallestiger Mittagskogel can be climbed:
- from Austria
- from Altfinkenstein via Gasthof Baumgartnerhof (car park 960 m, path 683) via the old customs house and Mitzl-Moitzl hut to the border ridge and from the southeast to the summit
- from Altfinkenstein or Kanzianiberg via Illitsch to the Urschitzhütte hunting lodge and from the northwest to the summit
- from Slovenia from Srednji vrh near Granska Gora (960 m) through the Hladniktal
- In addition, the mountain is a detour from the Karawanken-Höhenweg (variant of the Südalpenweg , Austrian long-distance hiking trail 03), on the section beginning at the Wurzenpass (1073 m).
The Rotschitza Klamm via ferrata is located on the Mallestiger Mittagskogel .
