Kanzianiberg , Slovenian Škocjan is a hamlet on the northern edge of the Karawanken foothills in Carinthia . It belongs to the municipality of Finkenstein am Faaker See in the Villach-Land district .
The place is about one and a half kilometers south of the municipality capital on the mountain of the same name at 795 m above sea level. A. ( ⊙ ).
History and sights
Settlement of the mountain is documented from the Neolithic Age .
There is an old church on Kanzianiberg, the branch church of St. Kanzian ⊙ : Cantius, Cantianus and Cantianilla , three martyrs of the diocese of Aquileia . The church is documented in an earlier building in 1301, today's late Gothic building dates from 1486 (frescoes and statues) and was partially redesigned in the Renaissance and Baroque periods . Today it is a branch church of the parish St. Stefan / Finkenstein . Kanziankirche, as well as burial mounds and hillside settlement are under monument protection.
