Kapıköy ( Turkish for door village ), (Kurd. Heretil ) is a village in the Saray district of the Turkish province of Van .

geography

Kapıköy, at 3,220 meters above sea level, is the highest place in Turkey. The village is located on the Vandogusu Mountains. The closest highest mountain is the Mengene Dağı at 3,435 meters.

Kapıköy is located about 101 km east of the provincial capital Van and 24 km southeast of Saray. Kapıköy had 654 inhabitants according to the last census (as of December 2009). The village is on the Iranian- Turkish border and has a border crossing .

history

The original place name was Heretil until the middle of the 20th century.

traffic

The village is on the Van – Tabriz railway line , the only rail link between Iran and Turkey. The Turkish-side border station for international traffic is also located here . The Iranian border station is 6 kilometers to the east and is called Razi .
