Kapıkırı (Milas) near Herakleia on the Latmos

Kapıkırı is a village belonging to Milas County in the Turkish province of Muğla .

The place is located on the south- eastern shore of Lake Bafa on the southern slope of the Beşparmak Dağları (Latmos Mountains) and can be reached by a junction from the main road Söke - Milas. Today's village lies in the middle of the ruins of ancient Herakleia on the Latmos . In order not to endanger the ruins, no new buildings may be built. Only 293 people live in Kapıkırı.

Mainly day-trippers come to the village to visit the ruins and take a boat trip on the lake. There are now a few small restaurants and simple pensions. The women of the place offer their handicrafts to tourists.
