Krešimir Lončar (born February 12, 1983 in Split , Yugoslavia ) is a Croatian basketball player who has had German citizenship since 2016. He is eight feet tall and plays in both the power forward and center positions. He has been under contract with Bundesliga club s.Oliver Würzburg since the 2016/2017 season .

Career

Lončar began his international professional career in 2000 in the first basketball league in Germany at DJK s.Oliver Würzburg , for which he contributed 4.4 points per game in the first year and 10.8 points in the second year. For the 2002/2003 season Lončar then moved to Italy , in the first division to Benetton Treviso , with whom he won the championship and the Italian Supercup in the first year, but did not get beyond a reserve role and therefore to the Teramo in 2003/2004 Basket , also from Italy, changed. After a year there Lončar left Italy and was active from the 2004/2005 to 2005/2006 season in the Ukraine for two years for BC Kiev , with whom he was able to win the championship in the first year. After two years for Lokomotive Rostov in Russia's first basketball league, Lončar came to UNICS Kazan at the beginning of the 2008/2009 season and won the Russian Cup there and was even voted the most valuable player (MVP) of the cup tournament. After two successful years there, he left the club and signed a two-year contract with league rivals BK Chimki . After a season at the Spanish Valencia Basket Club , he was under contract with Alba Berlin in the 2015/16 season . In June 2016 Lončar moved to Würzburg to join the s.Oliver Baskets and signed a two-year contract in the city where his international career began in 2000.

Croatian national team

Since 2008 Lončar has also been a member of the Croatian national basketball team , with which he participated in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing and in 2009 at the European Basketball Championships in Poland. In both tournaments they reached the 6th place, which Lončar qualified with Croatia for the 2010 World Cup in Turkey.
