The Roman Catholic Chapel of St. Joseph is in the village of Surcasti in the Val Lumnezia in the Swiss canton of Graubünden . It is consecrated to Joseph of Nazareth .

construction

The north-facing chapel consists of a 12-meter-long and 5.20-meter-wide nave without side chapels and a choir closed on three sides, which is covered with a barrel vault. She was consecrated on May 26, 1689 . In 1724 it was painted by Jakob Soliva from Trun . In 1928 the ship was enlarged to the south; At the same time, an overall renovation was carried out. Another renovation took place in 1948 after a fire.

The tower stands on the west side of the choir and has an onion dome . The two bells were cast by Gaudenz Hempel from Chur in 1688 .

On the shields of the choir, besides Bible verses from Matth. 1.18 depicts the Annunciation to Mary, her marriage to Joseph and his dream. On the vault the Holy Trinity , Mary and Joseph and several saints, on the choir arch a representation of the Seven Sorrows of Mary and in the reveal of the choir arch the Archangels Michael , Maria Magdalena and Guardian Angels.

The pictures are signed on the inside of the choir arch: "Jacobus Soliva Tronensis [from Trun] pinxit Anno MDCCXX IIII" . The pictures were restored in 1928 by the Christian Schmidt company from Zurich. The paintings on the vault of the ship are more recent.

Altars

The wooden high altar from 1647 was designed by Fridolin Eggert, who also created the altarpiece from 1694 with a picture of Joseph's death. The pictures on the epistle page were painted by Sigisbert Frey in 1700; they show scenes from the life of Placidus and Sigisbert von Disentis . As a year in the frieze shows, the altar was rebuilt in 1707. The side altars date from around 1700.

niche

In a niche with a carved frame from around 1700 there is a statue of Mary. The ornamental carving underneath dates from 1692.

Gallery

In the gallery on the south wall there is an organ with six registers on a manual and pedal. It was created as opus 102 by Orgelbau Felsberg.
