Franz Kosch

Franz Kosch (born November 19, 1894 in Steyr , † November 28, 1985 in Vienna ) was an Austrian theologian , priest , music teacher , musicologist and composer .

Live and act

Franz Kosch sang in the boys' choir of St. Stephen's Cathedral from 1905 to 1909 , studied theology at the University of Vienna from 1914 to 1918 and was then ordained a priest. During his studies in 1915 he became a member of the K.Ö.St.V. Aargau Vienna . From 1919 to 1927 he was music prefect at the Hollabrunn boys' seminar . In addition, he studied musicology with Guido Adler from 1921 to 1924 and obtained his doctorate. In Solesmes he trained from 1924 to 1931 with dom Joseph Gajard as a teacher of Gregorian chant . After working as a high school teacher and lecturer in choral music , he worked from 1933 to 1960 at the Vienna Music Academy in the church music department as a professor of choral singing, from 1938 as a board member.

In the Catholic Church he founded and headed the Diocesan Commission for Church Music of the Archdiocese of Vienna and held leading positions at the International Congress for Catholic Church Music in Vienna in 1954. From 1958 to 1964 he was a lecturer at the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Vienna .

His compositional work includes motets , songs and chorale arrangements . Among other things, he was a member of the Innviertel Artists Guild .

Kosch was buried at the Vienna Central Cemetery .
