Kara Liana Braxton (born February 18, 1983 in Jackson , Michigan , United States ) is a professional basketball player. She last played in the 2014 season for the New York Liberty in the Women's National Basketball Association .

Career

college

Kara Braxton played for the University of Georgia women's basketball team until 2005 . Braxton was considered a great talent at college, but she was repeatedly noticed by undisciplined behavior, for example she was always late for training.

Women's National Basketball Association

Braxton was selected seventh in the 2005 WNBA Draft by the Detroit Shock . Experts believed that she would have been selected earlier in the draft if she hadn't received negative attention several times in college. In the 2005 season Braxton was elected to the WNBA All-Rookie Team, she also scored an average of 6.9 points and 3 rebounds per game. In the 2006 season , many expected an increase in Braxton's performance, but she got less playing time and therefore had a lower average of points at the end of the season than in her rookie season. Even so, she played an important role in winning the WNBA championship. After this season, the Shock Center transferred Ruth Riley to the San Antonio Silver Stars , so she moved into the starting lineup of the Shock in the 2007 season . Braxton was selected to start the Eastern Conference All-Star Team during the season. At the end of the regular season, Braxton was suspended for two games after it was revealed she was driving a car under the influence of alcohol. Braxton finished this season, in which the Shock were runner-up, with an average of 6.7 points and 5.4 rebounds per game. In the 2008 season she was no longer a regular part of the team's starting lineup, but she got as much playing time as before and was able to win the WNBA championship with the team again. The 2009 season was similar for Kara Braxton, but this time there was no team success. Before the 2010 season , the Shock team moved to Tulsa and they continued to play for the franchise. There she was regularly part of the starting lineup and her statistical values remained at the level of the previous season. During the season, Kara Braxton moved to the Phoenix Mercury team for which she was also active in 2011 . During her time in Phoenix, she was able to achieve an average of over 10 points per game, which was the highest value of her career. Also in the 2011 season she was about to change clubs. This time the New York Liberty were the new team. After she was only a supplementary player there at the beginning, her playing times increased in the two following seasons and thus also her statistical values. In the 2013 season, Braxton was in the starting lineup of the Liberty in almost every game. Her WNBA career ended for the time being in 2014 after only four short appearances for the New York team .

Up to this point, she played in 10 WNBA seasons in the regular season 297 games, she was 120 times in the starting lineup and scored 2247 points, 1392 rebounds and 282 assists. In 46 playoff games (11 of them in the starting line-up) she scored 332 points, 207 rebounds and 37 assists.

Europe

During the WNBA season break, Braxton played like many WNBA players in Europe. She has already been used twice for the Polish team Wisła Can-Pack Krakow . In the 2005/06 and 2007/08 seasons she won the Polish championship with the Wisła Can-Pack Krakow. She was also active for teams from Italy and Turkey.
