The Karabalta ( Kyrgyz Карабалта ) is a left tributary of the Aksuu in northern Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan ( Central Asia ).
The Karabalta rises on the northern slope of the Kyrgyz mountains at an altitude of about 3600 m . It flows through the mountain valley of the same name in a northerly direction. The M41 trunk road between Bishkek and Osh follows the course of the river through the valley. In the lower section of the valley, the river passes the village of Sosnovka . 20 km further north, at the foot of the mountains, the Karabalta reaches the city of the same name, Karabalta . Numerous irrigation channels branch out in the plain. The Great Tschüikanal crosses the river north of the city of Karabalta . This continues its course north. The small Karabalta reservoir is located on the lower reaches south of Stepnoi . The river crosses the border to Kazakhstan and flows into the Aksuu shortly afterwards.
The Karabalta flows through the Jajyl administrative district in the Kyrgyz region of Chüi and, for the last few kilometers in Kazakhstan, the district of Shu in the Shambyl region . Its length is 133 km. Its catchment area covers 577 km². The mean discharge is 5.28 m³ / s. Due to the withdrawal of water for irrigation purposes, the Karabalta hardly carries any water in the lower reaches.
