history

Family history

Robert Kardashian married Kris Houghton, now known as Kris Jenner , in 1978 . The children Kourtney , Kim , Khloé and Rob emerged from the marriage. In 1991 the couple divorced. As a defense attorney in the criminal case against OJ Simpson , Robert Kardashian achieved national fame for the first time. He died of esophageal cancer in 2003 at the age of 59 . In 1991, Kris Jenner married the Olympic athlete Bruce Jenner, now known as Caitlyn Jenner . The couple had children, Kendall and Kylie .

Development into a global brand

Kim Kardashian went from 2003 in the reality show The Simple Life of Paris Hilton and acted as her assistant, which she learned more attention the first time. In 2006 the Kardashian sisters Khloé, Kim and Kourtney opened their first fashion boutique DASH in Los Angeles. Kim Kardashian gained more attention in 2007 when a private sex tape with her former boyfriend Ray J was leaked. A few months later, the reality show Keeping Up with the Kardashians started . The show shows insights into the life of the Kardashian-Jenner family. Only Kris Jenner made the format possible by persuading the US presenter Ryan Seacrest to produce the show. She seemed very conscious to use Kim Kardashian's media attention through the published sex tape to start the TV show.

The family's own television show remained in the public eye despite the long broadcast period through intensive marketing with events such as the numerous births of the Kardashian-Jenner sisters and the wedding of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West . At the same time, the importance of social media for marketing the family increased over the years. With Kylie Jenner and Kim Kardashian, the Instagram accounts of two family members were among the ten most popular worldwide in March 2020 . Three members of the Kardashian-Jenner family are also among the ten people in the world who make the most money from product advertising on Instagram.

In recent years, the family members have built different businesses. The most successful company founded is the cosmetics manufacturer Kylie Cosmetics by Kylie Jenner in 2015. Kim Kardashian was involved in the Hollywood app released in 2014 , with which she generates a large part of her income.

The successful commercialization of the family over the past few decades is largely attributed to Kris Jenner, who is active as executive producer of the family reality show and manager of her daughters.
