Karim Abdul-Jabbar Guédé (born January 7, 1985 in Hamburg , Germany ) is a former German football player who also has Slovak and Togolese citizenship . He was flexible, preferably in defensive midfield , and played fourteen times for the national team of Slovakia .

Since the end of his career he has been working as a scout for his ex-club SC Freiburg .

Career

society

Guédé, whose parents come from Togo and the father has French nationality , grew up in Hamburg . He played for his youth club, SC Hamm 02, for almost seven years. He then switched to the youth team at FC St. Pauli and in August 2002 to SC Concordia . At SC Concordia , the defensive specialist made the leap into the league team in 2003. After consistently good performances, Hamburger SV signed the Togoer for the regional league team in February 2005 . Due to his World Cup nomination for Togo (see below), foreign clubs also became aware of Guédé.

For the 2006/07 season he moved to FC Artmedia Bratislava in Slovakia after Hamburger SV had not extended his contract. This was the first station in which he was mainly used in midfield; before that he had always played in central defense. For Artmedia, the man from Hamburg has made several appearances in the league and in the UEFA Cup . With Artmedia he won the national cup and championship double in 2007/08. In January 2010, Guédé moved to local rivals ŠK Slovan Bratislava , where he immediately became a regular. He also won the 2010/11 double after winning the Slovak Cup with Slovan the year before.

In the winter break of 2011/12, SC Freiburg signed Guédé. The transfer fee should have been around 300,000 euros. On March 24, 2012 (27th matchday) he scored his first Bundesliga goal with the opening goal in a 2-0 win in the home game against 1. FC Kaiserslautern . In 2018, his contract with SC Freiburg was no longer extended and he joined the second division club SV Sandhausen , for which he played nine league times and once in the DFB Cup.

Following the season, the midfielder ended his active career.

National team

In 2006, Guédé was nominated for Togo's squad for the World Cup in Germany . Until then, the son of Togolese immigrants had not played for the HSV professional team in the past season, but played 14 times for the HSV reserve. Guédé sustained a back injury shortly before the World Cup, but he said he could have played. However, coach Otto Pfister removed him from the squad and nominated Franck Atsou, who was under contract with Al Hilal in Saudi Arabia .

Guédé received Slovak citizenship in July 2011 . This became possible because he had been resident in Slovakia for five years . On August 10, 2011, he made his debut for Slovakia in a friendly against Austria .

After the active career

In the summer of 2019, Guédé found a job with his former club SC Freiburg after the end of his playing career. He works there in the scouting area and is responsible for France and Africa.

Private

With the beatboxers Alberto and Aras Guédé had some appearances as a dancer. Due to his individual dance style, he took second place at the NEWSTYLE dance championships in Hamburg.
