Karin Käte Lissy Himboldt (born February 8, 1920 in Munich - † December 1, 2005 in Basel ) was a German actress.

Life

Himboldt grew up in Copenhagen , trained as an actor in Berlin and gained her first stage experience in Kiel . Her first film role was in 1940 in Falschmünzer from Hermann Pfeiffer . When the then already famous actor Heinz Rühmann looked through a pile of photos in search of a film partner for his next film Quax, the Bruchpilot , the straw-blonde 20-year-old immediately caught his eye by his own admission. This is how the young Himboldt got her most famous role, because three years later Rühmann brought her back to his side and played in the FeuerzangenbowleEva, the school principal's daughter. At the premiere of the film on January 28, 1944, she is said to have refused to give the Hitler salute , who was under special observation as the wife of a “half-Jew” . In the Quax sequel shot at the same time, the 1943/44 film Quax in Africa , which was not released until 1953, she then had to give priority to Rühmann's wife Hertha Feiler for the main role as film partner. Her two films, veterinarian Dr. Vlimmen with Hans Söhnker and Der Scheiterhaufen with Ewald Balser remained unfinished due to the collapse of the German Empire.

After the war she was unable to build on her earlier successes and only played supporting roles. She made her last film in 1959. In May 1958, she stood in front of the camera again for the TV play The chaste bon vivant at the side of Willy Millowitsch .

Himboldt married Carl Adams (1908–1997), director of a Basel chemical company, and withdrew completely from the film business and public life. In December 2005 she died at the age of 85 in an old people's home in Basel. Her grave is in the Hörnli cemetery .
