Karl-Dieter Grüske

Karl-Dieter Grüske (born December 11, 1946 in Erlangen ) is a German economist , professor of economics and was Rector and President of the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg from 2002 to 2015 . His successor is the computer scientist Joachim Hornegger . He was also Vice President of the German Rectors' Conference from 2008 to 2014 .

Life

Karl-Dieter Grüske studied economics in Erlangen-Nuremberg and Munich. From 1972 to 1988 he was assistant and senior academic adviser to Horst Claus Recktenwald at the Economics Institute of the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. In 1978 he received his doctorate “ summa cum laude ” with a topic on the redistribution effects of the public budget ( Die personal budget incidence. An analysis for the Federal Republic ). In 1986 he was awarded the Habilitation Prize of the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg and the Wolfgang Ritter Prize for his habilitation thesis .

Research stays took him to Indonesia in 1974, to Yemen in 1982 and to the USA in 1987. From 1988 to 1990 he was a scientific project manager at the Institute for Economy and Society with Meinhard Miegel at the Science Center in Bonn. In 1990 he was offered a position at the University of the Federal Armed Forces in Hamburg . In 1991 he took over the chair for economics, especially finance, at the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. He is a member of associations in his field, has authored three books and is among other things co-editor of the edition of the “Classics of Political Economy”.

In 1993 Grüske was appointed to the Scientific Advisory Board for Family Issues at the Federal Ministry for Family, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth ; since 1998 he has been its deputy chairman. Since 1997 he has been a member of the scientific advisory board for administrative reforms of the Hessian state ministries and universities, in various commissions for university reforms and as a member of the educational economics and finance committee of the Verein für Socialpolitik . In 1999 he was appointed to the Scientific Advisory Board of the German Youth Institute . In 1993 he became chairman of the Society for Financial Research. Since 2007 he has been chairman of the advisory board for research migration at the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees , and in 2008 he was elected vice-president of the German Rectors' Conference. In 2008, he was appointed honorary professor at Beijing University of Foreign Economics and Trade . After two years as deputy, he was chairman of the University of Bavaria from 2009 to 2011

Grüske was Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences from 1994 to 1996, a member of the Senate from 1996 to 2000, and Vice-Rector of the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg from 2000 to 2002. From April 1, 2002 to April 2015, he was President of the University of Erlangen Nuremberg.
