Horst Claus Recktenwald
Horst Claus Recktenwald (born January 25, 1920 in Spiesen ; † April 28, 1990 in Nuremberg ) was a German economist , especially a financial scientist .
Life
Horst Claus Recktenwald studied at the University of Mainz , where he also received his doctorate and qualified as a professor. After professorships at the Universities of Darmstadt and Freiburg / Breisgau , he was appointed to the Chair of Economics, in particular finance, in the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences at the Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nuremberg in 1963 .
Among other things, he was co-editor of the Journal of Public Economics and the magazine Public Finance Quarterly . He founded the well-known facsimile edition of the classics of economics , in whose comment volumes the leading researchers, including Nobel Prize winners in economics, contributed to the respective published works.
His scientific work focuses on order theory and politics as well as dogma-historical research, in particular Adam Smith , whose Wealth of Nations he translated into German. In addition, he conducted research on the theory and politics of the public economy, including cost-benefit analysis and the public income and expenditure system.
HC Recktenwald Prize for Economics
His wife, Hertha Auguste Recktenwald (March 4, 1921– February 2, 2008), honorary senator of the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, founded a foundation on December 17, 1993 with the aim of promoting research in the field of economics through a prize, the HC To promote the Recktenwald Prize for Economics. This prize is awarded every two years to a recognized scientist and was first awarded in 1995. Previous winners were: Edmond Malinvaud (1995), Joseph E. Stiglitz (1998; Nobel Prize Winner in Economics 2001), Paul Krugman (2000; Nobel Prize Winner in Economics 2008), Paul Romer (2002) and Oliver E. Williamson (2004).

Honors
Horst Claus Recktenwald was President and then Honorary President of the Institut International de Finances Publiques (IIPF) from 1978 to 1981 . In 1983 he was elected to the Leibniz Academy of Sciences and Literature in Mainz.
