Rudolf Gümbel
Rudolf Gümbel (born June 8, 1930 in Kirn ; † 2008 ) was a German economist .
Life
After graduating from high school in 1949 at the Zinzendorf grammar school in Königsfeld, he studied business administration at the Johannes Gutenberg University in Mainz ( Diplom-Kaufmann 1953). In 1959 he was at Karl Banse with the dissertation The influence of variety differentiation on the competitive design in retail for Dr. rer. pole. PhD ( magna cum laude ). In 1962 he completed his habilitation on the subject of assortment policy in retail businesses .
In 1963/64 he held the chair for general business administration and business market studies at the Georg-August University in Göttingen . In 1964 he became professor for general business administration and special business administration in trade at the Saarland University in Saarbrücken. In 1967 he took over the chair for general business administration and special business administration in trade at the Technical University of Berlin (1969/70 again substitute professorship). In 1969 he became a professor for business administration, in particular business administration for goods trading at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt . In 1983 he was a deputy professor at the University of Vienna . He refused a call to Münster.
In 1971 he became dean of the economics department and from 1971 to 1975 he was chairman of the economics and social science faculty conference . He was a member of the Association for Social Policy and the German Society for Business Research . In 1969 he became co-editor of Schmalenbach's magazine for business research . From 1979 to 1988 he was co-editor of Marketing - Journal for Research and Practice .
Gümbel was married and the father of two children. His daughter Eva Gümbel is a member of the Hamburg Parliament.
