Gerhard Kleinhenz

Gerhard D. Kleinhenz (born January 29, 1940 in Poppenhausen , Lower Franconia; † probably April 19, 2015 near Passau , Lower Bavaria) was a German economist.

Career

Kleinhenz passed the Abitur at the Gymnasium in Münnerstadt. He graduated from the University of Munich with a degree in economics in 1964. In 1965 he went to the chair for economics, especially economic and social policy, at the Technical University of Berlin as a research assistant , where he received his doctorate in 1969. Between 1969 and 1978 he stayed at the Research Institute for Social Policy at the University of Cologne , where he was appointed an academic council in 1972 and an academic senior council in 1973. During this time he completed his habilitation in 1976 at the University of Augsburg . In 1978 he accepted a professorship for economics with a focus on social policy at the newly founded University of Passau , which he held until his retirement in May 2008. From 1978–1981 and a second time in 2003/2004 he was Dean of the Faculty of Economics. He turned down offers to the University of Mannheim (1982) and to the Faculty of Economics at the Catholic University of Eichstätt (1989). From 1997–2002 he was director of the Institute for Employment Research (IAB) of the Federal Employment Agency.

Kleinhenz was a member of the scientific advisory board of the Federal Ministry for Family, Seniors, Women and Youth . Between 1995 and 1998 he was a member of the scientific advisory board for educational grants and from 1994–1997 he was chairman of the economic and social science faculty conference .

Kleinhenz was found dead in the Neuburg Forest on April 20, 2015 , after he had not returned from an afternoon bike trip the day before.
