Karl-Friedrich Fuchs

Karl-Friedrich Fuchs (born November 13, 1921 in Einsiedel ) is a German journalist and former functionary of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) in the German Democratic Republic (GDR). From 1971 to 1973 he was editor-in-chief of the GDR-wide daily newspaper Neue Zeit and most recently had two deputies there, journalists Dieter Eberle and Hans-Joachim Koppe .

Life

Fuchs fought as a member of the Air Force as a pilot in World War II . After the end of the war, he joined the CDU in 1945. In the same year he began his journalistic work for various CDU newspapers. Until 1950 he worked as a correspondent and published some children's books. In 1950/51 he completed a traineeship.

From 1952 to 1957, Fuchs was editor-in-chief of the daily Märkische Union , which appeared in Brandenburg with a circulation of around 40,000 copies. At the same time he became head of the service at the CDU central organ, the daily newspaper Neue Zeit , which appeared with a circulation of 200,000 copies throughout the GDR. At the beginning of April 1954 he let the Neue Zeit readers know on behalf of his daughter Theresa that he and his wife Marianne, née Emmerlich, had a son named Stephan. As editor-in-chief of the "Berliner Redaktion der CDU-Presse" from 1957 to 1960 he belonged to a delegation of the Association of the German Press (VDP) which visited Sofia in 1958 . In May 1961, the editorial team and publisher of the daily DIE UNION , under the responsibility of their editor-in-chief Fuchs, who had been editor-in-chief from 1960 to 1971, invited cultural workers, including Rudolf Mauersberger , Josef Hegenbarth , Hans Theo Richter , Herbert Collum and Fritz Löffler , to make the cultural section of the newspaper more interesting , especially to arouse more understanding and love for art among the readers. At the same time he was the editor-in-chief of the Märkische Union with the publishing location Potsdam . In July 1971, Fuchs, succeeding Hermann Kalb , became editor-in-chief of Neue Zeit and remained so in 1973. In the meantime, Hans (actually Johannes) Zillig was editor-in-chief from 1971 to 1973. In July 1973, Fuchs returned to Dresden as editor-in-chief of the daily newspaper DIE UNION , with a circulation of around 60,000. In this position he was replaced by Dieter Eberle in 1974 . Until 1986 he was again editor-in-chief of the "Berliner Redaktion der CDU-Presse" based in the Neue Zeit publishing house .

In 1972/73 Fuchs was a member of the secretariat of the main board of the CDU and from 1972 to 1977 the central board of the Association of Journalists of the GDR .
