Hermann Kalb

Hermann Kalb (born October 20, 1924 in Jena , † February 25, 2011 in Berlin-Steglitz ) was a GDR politician . He belonged to the GDR CDU . For many years he was a member of the People's Chamber and State Secretary.

Life

After attending primary and secondary schools in Jena and Frankfurt am Main, the son of an employee did military service in the Wehrmacht from 1941 to 1945 (last rank lieutenant).

In 1946 he completed a law degree at the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena and became a member of the CDU in the same year. From 1947 to 1949 he was secretary and chairman of the CDU district executive in Meiningen . From 1948 to 1950 he was district councilor and deputy district administrator of the Meiningen district. In 1949 he became a member of the FDGB and in 1950 a member of the Society for German-Soviet Friendship . From 1950 to 1952 he was CDU state secretary in Thuringia and at the same time a member of the Thuringian state parliament. From 1950 to March 1990 he was a member of the People's Chamber for forty years and thus most recently one of the longest serving MPs. From 1952 to 1961 he was chairman of the CDU district association in Erfurt and from 1952 to 1954 a member of the Erfurt district assembly. In 1952 he became a member of the CDU main board and was a member of the presidium of the CDU main board from 1960 to 1989. From 1961 to 1971, Kalb was also editor-in-chief of the CDU central organ Neue Zeit and from 1961 to 1970 a member of the presidium of the Association of Journalists of the GDR (VDJ) . From 1971 to October 1982 he was secretary of the main CDU board. From 1977 to 1989 he worked as the Deputy State Secretary for Church Affairs and from January 1 to September 30, 1990 as State Secretary and Head of the Office for Church Affairs.
