Werner Behrend

Werner Behrend (born November 2, 1918 in Königsberg (Prussia) , † March 19, 1987 ) was a German politician . He worked in the upper party branches of the CDU in the GDR .

Life

Behrend, born the son of a businessman, learned the trade of a car mechanic from 1935 to 1938 , after which he completed a commercial apprenticeship. In 1939, Behrend passed the clerk examination. On May 1, 1937, Behrend joined the NSDAP .

After the Second World War , Behrend became a member of the CDU and head of price monitoring at the Schönberg district administration in 1945 . Between 1947 and 1951 he was district councilor in Schönberg and Grevesmühlen . In 1951/52 he was a consultant in the CDU regional association of Mecklenburg and in 1952 in the council of the Schwerin district. From 1952 to 1955 he acted as chairman of the Schwerin- Stadt district association .

From 1956 to 1968 he was chairman of the Suhl district association . At the same time he was a member of the Suhl district assembly and candidate for the successor to the main CDU board. From 1968 to 1970 Behrend acted as chairman of the Gera district association of the CDU. In May 1970 he was elected chairman of the Erfurt district council of the CDU, a position he held until he retired in 1984. Behrend was a member of the Erfurt district assembly and a member of the main board of the CDU.
