action

Due to an old letter from his unknown father, Eric Roth ends up in El Camino in Nevada . When he checked into a motel on Christmas Eve, he was viewed critically by the local sheriff Carl Hooker and immediately assessed as a criminal.

The next day, Eric looks for the last known address of his father. There his father Larry Roth opens the door to him, who pretends to be someone else, but wants to tell more for a few beers. Then Eric invites him to a bar, but quickly realizes that he only wanted to get free drinks without anything in return. Visibly disappointed, he leaves the bar alone and drives back to the motel. There, the two sheriffs Carl Hooker and Billy Calhoun are waiting for him, who check his car and find a bag of marijuana in the passenger door .

They don't believe Eric that the bag belonged to his bartender and they take him to the sheriff's office, where he is mistreated by Sheriff Hooker and locked in a cell. When Hooker is gone, Calhoun deliberately allows him to escape. Eric then returns to the motel and is about to leave El Camino with his car when he is caught by Sheriff Hooker. A wild chase develops in which Eric manages to outrun the sheriff. Then he goes to the local liquor store where the owner Vicente Santos and his colleague Kate Daniels are trying to fix the refrigerator. His unknown father is just about to get some beer here when Sheriff Hooker suddenly appears, and when he sees Eric, immediately pulls his gun and shoots him.

But Hooker does not hit properly and is shot by Larry. Alarmed by hookers via radio, the sheriffs surround the liquor store and assume a hostage situation. In an amateurish way they try to storm the liquor store, whereby the owner is shot. When further mediation attempts fail, the FBI takes over the negotiations. Larry, who has since confessed to Eric that he is his biological father, poses as a hostage-taker and saves his son from jail.
