Karl-Heinz legs , or Karl legs for short (born 1951 ) is a German human medicine specialist , university professor and non-fiction author .

Life

First, Karl legs completed his apprenticeship as a central heating and ventilation engineer. He passed his Abitur in 1973 at the evening grammar school in Dortmund. He then began studying social and literary sciences and then studying medicine at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Münster . As early as 1982 he began further training in neurology and psychotherapy to become a specialist in Gütersloh. With the dissertation Comparative study of perception autistic , mentally handicapped and normal children using a questionnaire it is 1983 at the Westphalian Wilhelms University in Muenster MD PhD Service. During this time, the first publications on ethical issues, psychiatric-historical topics and the nursing scandal were made . Further medical science focal points were: Special features of the chronic course of illness in psychiatry, such as the changed subjective experience of time and the danger. He then took up a teaching position at the University of Witten / Herdecke .

Since 1987 he has worked as a specialist in neurology and psychiatry. From 1988 to 1997, Karl legs was the deputy head physician at the Hans Prinzhorn Clinic in Hemer . At the beginning of the 1990s he dealt with questions of hospital organization and personnel requirements in psychiatry in several publications. In 1997 he completed his habilitation at the medical faculty of the University of Witten / Herdecke with the habilitation thesis Sick Kills in Clinics and Homes and the attitude of employees in the health professions to active euthanasia . In connection with this work, several publications on euthanasia and its history were made. He also consistently dealt with questions about psychopharmacotherapy .

From 1997 to 1999 he was the senior physician at the Westphalian Clinic for Psychiatry, Psychotherapy, Psychosomatics and Neurology in Gütersloh. In 1997 he was appointed to the chair for psychiatry and psychotherapy at the University of Witten / Herdecke. Since September 1, 1999, Karl legs has been the chief physician of the clinic for psychiatry and psychotherapy at St. Marien Hospital in Hamm and an adjunct professor at the University of Witten / Herdecke.

From 2002 to 2010 he was a member of the federal board of the German Society for Psychiatry, Psychotherapy and Neurology (DGPPN). Since 2003 he has been a spokesman for the working group of chief physicians of clinics for psychiatry and psychotherapy at general hospitals in Germany.
