Karl-Heinz Bormuth

Karl-Heinz Bormuth (born August 7, 1929 - † February 10, 2020 in Marburg ) was a German Protestant theologian , teacher, founder and long-time director of the Marburg Bible Seminary (MBS).

Live and act

Karl-Heinz Bormuth completed a degree in English , Protestant theology and pedagogy in Marburg . He then worked as a teacher at the grammar school in Bad Arolsen and in 1964 he moved to the German Social Diaconal Association (DGD) in Marburg. As a speaker and educator, he was in charge of the associated deaconess mother house in Hebron in Marburg-Wehrda for four years. In 1968 he moved to the headquarters of the DGD in Marburg to teach human sciences at the Protestant University of Tabor , among other things . In November 1971 he founded the Marburg Bibelseminar as a training facility for volunteers, which he headed until his retirement in 1996. He developed the program from initially several weeks of courses to a three-year Bible school education, which qualified for the officially recognized qualification as a youth consultant. At the pietistic training facility, now known as MBS, students are trained as state-approved educators as well as church-recognized community educators. In 1974 he founded the Marburg Nursing College, which he also directed.

He was a member of the Gnadau Theological Working Group and worked on the Elberfeld Bible with explanations.

Bormuth was married to the writer Lotte Bormuth from 1957 . The two have five children. The couple also became known through the Christmas party for the lonely and homeless, which they organized for over 50 years in the rooms of the Evangelical Community of Marburg-Süd and which has up to 170 visitors. Until 2017 they ran camps together across Germany.

Awards

In 2015, Bormuth and his wife, the writer Lotte Bormuth, were honored with the Historic City Seal of the City of Marburg, among other things for their commitment to caring for the poor and the homeless.
