Karl-Heinz Emig (born June 29, 1962 in Mannheim ) is a German soccer coach and former soccer player.
Career
During his active career, Emig was under contract as a defender at Waldhof Mannheim , Hertha BSC , Darmstadt 98 , Kaiserslautern , Unterhaching , Wolfsburg and Eintracht Trier . He completed 292 second and 64 first division appearances . The greatest success of his career was the 1990 DFB Cup victory with 1. FC Kaiserslautern.
Emig began his coaching career in November 1996 as head coach of Eintracht Trier. With the regional league team he reached the semi-finals in the 1998 DFB Cup. He then worked as an A youth coach and from 2000 as assistant coach under Andreas Brehme at 1. FC Kaiserslautern and was briefly interim coach at Lautrer in August and September 2002 after Brehme's dismissal. Emig's only competitive game as responsible coach was the DFB-Pokal first round match against USC Paloma Hamburg (5-0). He then assisted Eric Gerets and Kurt Jara . From July 2004 to December 2006 Emig acted as assistant coach to Markus Schupp at the second division club Wacker Burghausen . From July 2008 he coached the U-17 Bundesliga team of 1. FC Kaiserslautern.
On January 9, 2010, Emig was hired as assistant coach of the second division club Karlsruher SC and worked there with head coach Markus Schupp, as he did in Burghausen. On October 31, 2010, the KSC parted ways with coach Markus Schupp after a series of five defeats in six games, so that assistant coach Karl-Heinz Emig also had to leave.
During the 2011/12 season Emig began working as an assistant coach at Rot-Weiß Oberhausen under head coach Mario Basler . In April 2012, Rot-Weiß Oberhausen extended the contract with Emig early for the 2012/13 season.
