Karl-Heinz Weger

Karl-Heinz Weger (born July 17, 1932 in Schweinfurt , † January 15, 1998 in Munich ) was a German Catholic theologian and philosopher.

Weger joined the Society of Jesus in 1951 . After the novitiate he went to England to study philosophy from 1954–57 - first at Heythrop College in Chipping Norton near Oxford , then at Manresa College in London (1954–1957). He then worked for a year as an educator at the Jesuit college in St. Blasien . In 1958 he went to Indonesia, initially as an English teacher at the Minor Seminary in Mertojudan. From 1960 to 1964 he studied theology at Ignatius College in Yogyakarta , where he was ordained a priest in 1963. In 1967 he received his doctorate in Maastricht . From 1966 to 1971 Weger was an editorial member of the monthly magazine Voices of the Time . From 1969/70 he was a lecturer, from 1975 professor for the foundations of systematic theology and philosophical anthropology at the University of Philosophy in Munich. There he founded and headed the Institute for Religious Criticism for many years.

Weger's theological thinking revolved primarily around fundamental theological issues that were strongly influenced by Karl Rahner's theology . Furthermore, he repeatedly dealt with the issues of criticism of religion in research and teaching .
