Karl-Heinz Eduard Wocker (born May 1, 1928 in Düsseldorf , † October 10, 1985 in London ) was a German radio correspondent, writer and television presenter . The Doctor of Philosophy became known to a wide audience as the long-time host of the talk show 3 to 9 .

family

Karl-Heinz Wocker was married to Hertha Pfeil for the first time. From this marriage comes their son Manfred, who worked as a pharmacist in Hamburg. From the second marriage with the journalist and translator Viktoria von Benda, geb. Stückrath, comes the son Sebastian, who lives as a musician and editor of the local newspaper The Hampstead Village Voice in London.

Career

Wocker received his doctorate in 1956 with the dissertation Critique and Production with Franz Grillparzer in Marburg. Until the end of his life he was the UK correspondent for NDR and WDR as well as the weekly newspaper Die Zeit in London . His biography about Queen Victoria (1978) was a great success and was reprinted several times. The journalist also dealt with topics related to Great Britain in other book publications .

In the field of satire, Wocker made himself unforgettable early on with his "language course in seven lessons" Learns Rheinisch with Konrad Adenauer (1963), the first edition of which appeared while Adenauer was in office as Federal Chancellor. For this purpose, Wocker evaluated countless audio clips from speeches by the politician in order to put them back together "for everyone who is serious about the Chancellor".

From 1975 he hosted the talk show 3 nach 9 for Radio Bremen for seven years . Before that, he had also briefly moderated Panorama magazine (1963). Other television activities included the head to head knowledge show and Games without Frontiers European competitions .

Karl-Heinz Wocker died in 1985 of a heart condition.
