Karl-Theodor Zauzich

Karl-Theodor Zauzich (born June 8, 1939 in Plauen ) is a German Egyptologist and demotist .

Life

From 1945 to 1953 he attended elementary school in Leipzig and Grimma and from 1953 to 1957 the secondary school in Grimma and Leipzig. After graduating from the Thomasschule Leipzig in 1957, he studied Egyptology at the University of Leipzig from 1957 to 1958 . In November 1958 he fled to the Federal Republic. After taking the supplementary examination for the East German Abitur in Koblenz in April 1959, he studied Egyptology and classical philology at the University of Mainz from 1959 to 1964 . From 1960 to 2000 she worked at the Demotic Name Book (Academy of Sciences and Literature, Mainz) in Mainz, Würzburg and Berlin. From 1965 to 2014 he worked on the “Cataloging of Oriental Manuscripts in Germany”, from 1967–1973 as a research assistant in Würzburg and Berlin, then on a voluntary basis, 1994–2014 member of the management committee. After receiving his doctorate in 1966 as Dr. phil. In Mainz he was a research assistant at the Egyptian Museum Berlin from 1973 to 1980 . After completing his habilitation in July 1980 at the Free University of Berlin , he became Professor C3 at the University of Mainz in 1980 , head of the seminar for Egyptology. In 1981 he became Professor C4 at the University of Würzburg and head of the Institute for Egyptology.

His main research interests are demotic writing and language; demotic texts from Elephantine and Soknopaiu Nesos; Origin of the alphabet; Traces of the Egyptian religion in the Hebrew Bible.
