Karl Ruben Anderson (born August 6, 1953 in Lewiston , Maine ) is a retired American ski racer . His specialty was downhill .

Career

Karl Anderson was in the top ten four times in his World Cup career . His best result was fifth in the downhill from Jackson Hole on March 9, 1975. In the European Cup , he won the downhill classification in the 1975/76 season with three points ahead of Swiss Erwin Josi . In 1978 he became the American downhill champion. He took his last World Cup points on December 21, 1980 with 15th place in the downhill from St. Moritz .

Anderson took part in major events three times: at the 1976 Winter Olympics in Innsbruck he was 24th in the downhill, and at the 1978 World Cup in Garmisch-Partenkirchen , he was 28th. In 1980 he took part in the Olympic Games for the second time in Lake Placid , but fell out of downhill skiing there.

Anderson was the first alpine ski racer from the US state of Maine to participate in the Olympic Games and was inducted into the Maine Ski Hall of Fame in 2005.
