Karl Andreas Christiani

Karl Andreas Christiani (born November 29, 1707 in Königsberg (Prussia) , † June 21, 1780 ibid) was a German philosopher.

Life

Christiani had attended the cathedral school in Königsberg and enrolled at the University of Königsberg on September 30, 1723 . Here he appeared as a respondent under Johann Gottfried Teske in 1726 and under Daniel Heinrich Arnoldt in 1730. He continued his studies at the University of Halle , where he became a teacher at the royal high school in 1731 and on June 15, 1735 acquired the academic degree of a master's degree in philosophical sciences. In Halle he had been influenced by Pietism and returned as a private lecturer to Königsberg on August 27, 1735, where he received an extraordinary professorship in practical philosophy that same year. He mainly gave lectures on natural law and explained the philosophical principles of Christian Wolff , and later those of Gottfried Achenwall .

In 1736 he became inspector of the Groben scholarship and in 1749 full professor of practical philosophy in Königsberg. He also became inspector of the Albertine College and the Royal Alumni. He was also entrusted with the supervision of the academic coffers as a redant, he became curator of the scholarships and in 1763 senior librarian of the academic and Wallerodtische library in Königsberg. In his capacity as a Königsberg university lecturer, he also took part in the organizational tasks of the Königsberg Academy and was elected rector of the Alma Mater in the summer semesters of 1768, 1774 and 1780 . However, he died in his last term of office.
