Karl August Muffat
Karl August Muffat , from 1877 Karl August von Muffat (born October 29, 1804 in Sulzbach, † September 28, 1878 in Munich ) was a Bavarian historian , archivist and numismatist .
Muffat was trained at the royal court and state library in Munich, then worked as a clerk and from 1859 as a councilor at the royal general archive. In 1837 he was involved in founding the Historical Association of Upper Bavaria . In 1852 he was appointed a member of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences and in 1858 was allowed to give the official speech on the 700th birthday of Munich in the town hall. He was mainly concerned with the Bavarian history under the Wittelsbachers as well as with coinage.
The architect Karl Muffat was the brother of Karl August Muffat. The Munich Muffathalle is named after the two brothers.
