Karl Augustin also Augustin-Hartmann (born August 30, 1884 in Sternberg , Moravia , today Šternberk, Czech Republic ; † October 23, 1988 in Thayngen ; resident of Thayngen since 1917) was a Swiss printer and publisher of Austrian origin .

Life

Family and education

Born Catholic , Karl Augustin, from Sternberg in northern Moravia, which at that time belonged to the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy, son of the weaver and factory owner Emil Augustin, who died early , completed compulsory schooling in his hometown. Karl Augustin, who emigrated to Switzerland in 1907, then completed an apprenticeship as a typesetter as well as a course as a typesetter in Berlin . Karl Augustin married the teacher Pauline Hartmann in 1911 . He died in October 1988 at the old age of 104.

Entrepreneurial background

In 1911, inspired by the Reiat trade association, Karl Augustin founded a printing company in Thayngen, in the canton of Schaffhausen , which traded under the name of Karl Augustin AG. Karl Augustin then published the Volksblatt vom Reiath until 1918, then until 1947 the Schaffhauser Bauer, the publication organ of the Schaffhausen farmers' party, since 1935 the yearbook Schaffhauser Contributions to History and since 1953 the Heimatblatt. In parallel to economic prosperity , the company developed through courageous investments, so a GOEBEL 4-color rotary machine was purchased with which cardboard rolls could be printed in multiple colors and punched inline, especially as a supplier to Knorr-Nahrungsmittel AG Thayngen to a large company. Karl Augustin was entrusted with the management of the company until the end of his life.

In 1974, on the occasion of his 90th birthday, he was given honorary citizenship of the Thayngen community.
