Karl Böddeker

Karl Böddeker (born August 13, 1846 in Lippstadt ; † October 9, 1924 ; full name Karl Peter Friedrich Böddeker ) was a German school director, English studies , Romance studies and textbook author. He worked in the Pomeranian provincial capital of Szczecin from 1873 until his death .

Life

Böddeker attended high school in Burgsteinfurt and then studied from 1866 to 1869 at the Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität zu Berlin and at the University of Greifswald . After further training as a high school teacher, a six-month stay abroad in England and a short stint in Prenzlau , Böddeker went to Stettin in 1873 to attend the Schiller Realgymnasium. Stettin remained his place of work for 50 years until his death.

From 1877 Böddeker worked part-time on the examination committee for teachers and school principals. He continued his activity in teacher training in the teacher training institute and as a member of the commission for the secondary school teacher examination.

In 1898 Böddeker switched to the Kaiserin-Auguste-Viktoria-Schule, the oldest girls' school in Szczecin, as director, which included an upper lyceum and a seminar for teachers . Böddeker promoted foreign language teaching in English and French by organizing an exchange with teachers from England and France - until the outbreak of World War I. In 1911 the lyceum and college were separated, Böddeker became head of the college and was able to lead the first female students to the Abitur here in 1915 . In 1916 Böddeker retired for reasons of age. He died in 1924.
