Karl Bülbring

Karl Daniel Bülbring (born July 24, 1863 in Voerde ; † March 22, 1917 in Bonn ) was a German Anglicist .

Life

Bülbring came from Voerde (now part of the municipality Ennepetal ) in Westphalia . He attended high school in Kassel and then studied English philology in Bonn , Berlin and again in Bonn . There he was in 1888 when Moritz Trautmann with a thesis on the history of ablaut the strong verbs in southern England to Dr. phil. PhD. In 1890 his habilitation followed at the University of Heidelberg . Bülbring's field of work was historical grammar. On March 4, 1893, he was appointed professor of English language and literature at the University of Groningen in the Dutch city of Groningen , and on August 17, 1900 in the same function at the Rheinische Friedrich-Wilhelms-Universität Bonn , where he was co-director of the English Department of Second English next to Trautmann was. His Old English Elementary Book (1902) is among other things a standard work on North Humbrian . Bülbring founded the Bonn studies in English philology .

Bülbring was born with Hortense Leonore. Kann (1868–1938), who came from a Jewish Dutch family. The marriage produced two sons and two daughters, two of whom were born in Gröningen, the Netherlands, and two in Bonn. The youngest child was the future pharmacologist Edith Bülbring (1903–1990).

In 1908/09, Bülbring had a villa built in Bonn according to plans by the local architect and government master builder Heinrich Roettgen (→ Raiffeisenstrasse 1 (Bonn) ). His fortune is given in the 1913 Yearbook of Millionaires at one to two million marks .
