Heinrich Theodor Roettgen (born January 10, 1863 in Bonn ; † March 6, 1932 ) was a German architect and government builder who worked primarily in his hometown of Bonn.

Live and act

Roettgen grew up as the son of a businessman in a Catholic family in Bonn. He attended the Kortegarn'sche Realschule in his hometown and after graduation switched to the Prima of the Realgymnasium in Mülheim am Rhein . There Roettgen passed the Matura exam in March 1882 . At Easter 1882 he began studying Romance and English at the University of Bonn . On October 1, 1883, he joined the Hussar Regiment in Bonn as a one-year volunteer . In Bonn Roettgen 1888 graduated with a presentation about the vocal conditions in the Genoese medieval texts to Dr. phil.

After completing his studies, Roettgen completed an apprenticeship as an architect and entered the civil service as a government building manager . After passing the second state examination in 1904, he was appointed government master builder for structural engineering. In 1906 Roettgen, now living in Düsseldorf , left the civil service at his own request and settled in Bonn as a freelance architect. His most important projects in the city include the expansion of the Provincial Museum based on the ground plan drawn up by the State Supervision Inspector (1907/08), combined with the adjacent new building for the Provincial Curator, and the construction of the Chamber of Agriculture for the Rhine Province (1914/15).

Roettgen was a member of the "Alt-Bonn" association (since 1951 " Bonner Heimat- und Geschichtsverein ") and was a member of its board. In addition, he was a member of a design commission set up by the city of Bonn to assess special building projects to monitor the objectives of the “Local Statute for the Protection of the City of Bonn against Defect” published in 1909.
