Karl Birnbaum (agronomist)

Karl Joseph Eugen Birnbaum (born May 18, 1829 in Leuven , Belgium, † May 8, 1907 in Berlin ) was a German agricultural scientist and member of the Reichstag .

Karl Birnbaum was born as the son of Johann Michael Franz Birnbaum and studied in Gießen from 1848 to 1850 , then worked as a farmer for three years , devoted himself to theoretical studies of agriculture in Gießen and Jena from 1853 to 1856 and completed his habilitation as a private lecturer in Gießen. From then until 1860 he worked at Frankfurt am Main as head administrator and head of an institute for the education of agricultural workers and then founded a private training institute for farmers in Giessen. In 1866 he took over the agricultural college in Plagwitz-Leipzig and in 1869 he was appointed professor at the university, where he remained after the private institute was closed. From 1871 to 1873 he was a member of the German Reichstag and belonged to the National Liberal Party .
