Karl Brunner (English studies)

Karl Brunner (born June 8, 1887 in Prague , † April 26, 1965 in Innsbruck ) was an Austrian English graduate and rector of the University of Innsbruck .

Life

Karl Brunner completed high school and studies in Innsbruck and completed his habilitation in Vienna in 1915 , where he became a private lecturer in 1916 . In 1922 he was appointed associate professor at the Vienna University of World Trade . In 1924 he moved to the University of Innsbruck as full professor and director of the Institute for English Language and Literature . In 1928/29 and 1936/37 he was dean of the philosophy faculty and before the Second World War 1937/38 rector of the University of Innsbruck. His criticism of the Anschluss led to his involuntary, early retirement and other disadvantages. In 1945/46 he was the first rector of the University of Innsbruck after the end of the Second World War.
