Karl Christ (local history researcher)

Karl Christ , also Carl Christ (born November 23, 1841 in Karlsruhe , † May 29, 1927 in Ziegelhausen near Heidelberg ), was a German homeland researcher and private scholar.

Karl Christ was the son of the lawyer Anton Christ (1800–1880) and grew up with his brother Gustav Christ (1845–1918) in Karlsruhe, Frankfurt and Heidelberg. He studied chemistry, law and economics at the University of Heidelberg , but without a degree. He worked all his life as a private scholar of the history of Heidelberg and its Kurpfälzer environment. In 1860 he discovered the remains of the ring walls on the Heiligenberg . In 1890 he became a member of the Commission for the History of the City of Heidelberg and edited the New Archive for the History of the City of Heidelberg and the Rhineland Palatinate (later: New Archive for the History of the City of Heidelberg and the Electoral Palatinate ) with Albert Mays until his death . In November 1921 the University of Heidelberg awarded him the title of Dr. phil. hc He was an honorary member of the Mannheimer Altertumsverein and the Odenwaldklub . He lived in Ziegelhausen, where he died and was buried in the cemetery. The street where he lived was named Karl-Christ-Straße.
