Karl Daniel Reusch

Karl Daniel Reusch (born April 28, 1735 in Königsberg (Prussia) , † August 28, 1806 there ) was a German physicist and librarian.

Life

The son of Christian Friedrich Reusch (* October 20, 1695 - † February 22, 1742), pastor of the old town of Königsberg, was enrolled at the University of Königsberg on March 24, 1750. In 1753 he participated as a respondent to Jacob Friedrich Werner's appointment dissertation Prudentia politica a L. Junio ​​Bruto, antequam obtinuit consulatum . He was a student of Immanuel Kant , his frequent table companion and was on friendly terms with him. In order to embark on an academic career, he acquired the degree of master's degree in philosophy on September 15, 1763 and was appointed to the faculty of philosophy on October 5 of the same year.

In 1772 he became a full professor of physics in Königsberg, in 1773 second librarian of the Königsberg university library and in 1778 first librarian of the same. In 1780 he was appointed inspector of the alumni and the Collegium Albertinum . As a university lecturer in Königsberg, he also took part in the university's organizational tasks. He was rector of the Alma Mater in the summer semesters of 1790, 1796 and 1804 .

He had seven children from his marriage to a daughter of the pharmacist Heinrich Hagen (1709–1772), who at the same time became his table companion and friend, the polymath and court pharmacist Karl Gottfried Hagen . However, only the father survived three sons. These were:

  • Karl Wilhelm Georg Reusch (born February 3, 1776, † December 4, 1813) was the city physician in Königsberg and associate professor of medicine
  • Johann Theodor Reusch (born August 18, 1783) became a pharmacist on the Sackheim in Königsberg
